When I was young, one of the things I enjoyed doing was reading the “Dear Abby” section of the newspaper. For those of you who are older, you will remember this was a column in the newspaper where people would write in with their problems or challenges. Then there would be a response after the questions were posed by “Abby” So it was not unusual that I went on to choose a career that deals with other people’s problems.
- Sometimes I would agree with the advice, other times I would think it was really dumb.
- Sometimes I thought it was just plain ridiculous!
- The truth is YOU may have the same experience as you follow along with me on this blog.
But I will endeavor to share wisdom with you in short chunks so you can take a few minutes to read and then process what I have said. I plan to share advice and counsel from my many years as a therapist and counselor working with adults and teens on issues related to substance abuse, mental health, and other relational situations. The kinds of problems that can seriously impede any kind of positive quality of life.
So just like Dear Abby, you may agree with some of the things I share and may challenge others. I loved facilitating group counseling as a therapist and counselor. I always found there was Wisdom within the group process. I didn’t have all the answers or experiences for that matter, but there were always members of the group who had good insight. They shared roadblocks and solutions that benefited all. As with that group process, I hope to share some of your thoughts and your solutions in this blog as well so that we can all learn together.
Yes, I am a Christian and much of my counsel will be from that perspective, but we are open and welcome new voices who will challenge us all to grow in our perspectives and understanding.
Awesome thoughts!
